Below you will find answers to the most common questions about the RELIQ Relationship Intelligence Assessment. Use these answers in your affiliate marketing materials to help potential customers understand what RELIQ measures, how it works, and why it is unlike anything else on the market.

Understanding RELIQ
1 What is RELIQ?

RELIQ stands for Relationship Intelligence Quotient. It is the first comprehensive assessment designed to measure your intelligence when it comes to relationships -- not just romantic partnerships, but the cognitive and emotional skills that determine how you connect with others.

Created by Timothy E. Parker, a Guinness World Records holder, RELIQ goes far beyond personality quizzes or compatibility tests. It measures the actual skills, instincts, and behavioral patterns that drive relationship success or failure.

Available in both Individual and Couples modes, RELIQ provides a detailed, multi-dimensional profile of your relationship intelligence with actionable insights for improvement.

2 What is Relationship Intelligence?

Relationship Intelligence is the set of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral skills that determine how effectively you build, maintain, and navigate relationships. Think of it as the "IQ" of your interpersonal life.

It encompasses skills like:

  • Emotional awareness -- Understanding your own emotions and those of others
  • Communication effectiveness -- How well you express needs and listen to others
  • Conflict resolution -- Your ability to navigate disagreements constructively
  • Trust and loyalty patterns -- How you build and maintain trust
  • Adaptability -- How well you adjust to relationship changes and challenges
  • Attachment awareness -- Understanding your own attachment style and its impact

Most people have never had these skills measured. RELIQ changes that by providing a clear, scored profile of your relationship strengths and growth areas.

3 What does RELIQ measure?

RELIQ measures relationship intelligence across multiple distinct dimensions, including:

  • Communication Style -- How you express yourself and receive information in relationships
  • Emotional Intelligence -- Your ability to recognize, understand, and manage emotions
  • Conflict Management -- How you handle disagreements, tension, and difficult conversations
  • Trust & Loyalty -- Your patterns around building trust, maintaining loyalty, and handling betrayal
  • Intimacy & Vulnerability -- Your comfort level with emotional closeness and openness
  • Adaptability & Growth -- How well you evolve within relationships over time
  • Attachment Awareness -- Understanding of your attachment patterns and their effects
  • Relationship Vision -- Clarity about what you want and need from relationships

Each dimension is scored individually and contributes to your overall RELIQ score, creating a comprehensive relationship intelligence profile.

4 Individual vs Couples -- what's the difference?

Individual Mode ($99):

  • Assesses your personal relationship intelligence profile
  • Measures all dimensions of your relationship skills and patterns
  • Provides a 28-page detailed PDF report
  • Ideal for anyone -- single, dating, or in a relationship
  • Focuses on your individual strengths and growth areas

Couples Mode ($179):

  • Both partners take the assessment
  • Includes individual profiles for each partner
  • Plus a compatibility analysis comparing both profiles
  • Identifies complementary strengths and potential friction points
  • Provides a 15-page couples comparison report
  • Includes relationship-specific recommendations based on the dynamic between both partners

There is also a Retest option ($49) for individuals who want to reassess after working on their relationship skills.

5 Who created RELIQ?

RELIQ was created by Timothy E. Parker, a Guinness World Records holder who has reached over 180 million people worldwide through his puzzles, educational content, and assessment tools.

Parker identified a significant gap in the relationship assessment space: most tools focus on personality compatibility ("Do you both like hiking?") rather than the actual cognitive and emotional skills that determine relationship outcomes.

Drawing on decades of assessment design expertise and research in relationship psychology, attachment theory, and emotional intelligence, Parker developed RELIQ to be the most comprehensive relationship intelligence assessment available to the public.

RELIQ is published by Advanced Learning Academy, Parker's platform for science-backed personal development tools.

Taking the Assessment
6 How long does it take?

The RELIQ assessment takes approximately 25 to 40 minutes per person to complete, depending on individual pace.

For Couples Mode, each partner completes the assessment independently (it does not need to be done at the same time or on the same device). Total time investment is about 25-40 minutes per partner.

We recommend taking the assessment in a relaxed, honest mindset. The questions work best when you answer authentically rather than trying to give "correct" answers -- there are no right or wrong responses, only honest ones.

Unlike timed cognitive tests, RELIQ has no speed component. Take your time and reflect on each question.

7 What's in the report?

Individual Report (28 pages):

  • Your overall RELIQ Score
  • Dimension-by-dimension breakdown with individual scores
  • Your relationship intelligence strengths
  • Growth areas with specific improvement strategies
  • Your communication style profile
  • Attachment pattern analysis
  • Personalized recommendations for building stronger relationships
  • Detailed narrative analysis written specifically for your profile

Couples Report (15 pages, in addition to individual reports):

  • Side-by-side comparison of both partners' profiles
  • Compatibility analysis across all dimensions
  • Complementary strengths identification
  • Potential friction points and how to navigate them
  • Relationship-specific recommendations for the couple

All reports are delivered as professional PDF documents.

8 Can I take it if I'm single?

Absolutely. The Individual Mode is designed to work whether you are single, dating, in a relationship, or anywhere in between.

In fact, taking RELIQ while single can be especially valuable because it helps you:

  • Understand your relationship patterns before entering a new relationship
  • Identify what you bring to the table as a partner
  • Recognize blind spots that may have affected past relationships
  • Build relationship skills proactively, not reactively
  • Gain clarity about what you truly need in a partner

RELIQ measures your relationship intelligence -- the skills and patterns you carry into every relationship. You do not need to be in a relationship to benefit from understanding them.

9 Is it like couples therapy?

No. RELIQ is an assessment tool, not a therapy service. However, it can be a powerful complement to therapy or counseling.

Here is how they differ:

  • Couples therapy involves ongoing sessions with a licensed therapist who guides you through relationship challenges over time
  • RELIQ is a one-time assessment that measures your relationship intelligence and provides a detailed profile with specific insights and recommendations

Many couples therapists and relationship coaches find tools like RELIQ valuable because they provide a data-driven starting point for conversations. Rather than spending weeks figuring out where the issues lie, a RELIQ report can quickly identify the key dimensions that need attention.

RELIQ is not a substitute for professional counseling. If you are experiencing serious relationship difficulties, we encourage working with a qualified therapist. RELIQ can help inform that process.

10 Will it tell me if my relationship is "good" or "bad"?

No, and that is by design. RELIQ does not judge relationships as "good" or "bad." It measures the skills and patterns that each person brings to their relationships.

What RELIQ does tell you:

  • Which relationship intelligence dimensions are your strengths
  • Which areas have room for growth
  • How your communication style may affect your relationships
  • What your attachment patterns look like and how they influence your connections
  • Specific strategies to strengthen weaker areas

In Couples Mode, it identifies where partners complement each other and where friction might arise -- but it does not declare a relationship "doomed" or "perfect." Every relationship has areas of strength and areas that need work. RELIQ helps you see them clearly so you can take action.

Features & Details
11 How is Communication Style measured?

Communication Style is one of the most critical dimensions RELIQ measures. The assessment evaluates multiple facets of how you communicate in relationships:

  • Directness vs. Indirectness -- Do you say what you mean, or do you hint and hope others pick up on it?
  • Listening quality -- How well you actually hear and process what others are saying
  • Emotional expression -- Your comfort level communicating feelings, needs, and vulnerabilities
  • Conflict communication -- How your style changes during disagreements (shut down, escalate, or stay engaged)
  • Nonverbal awareness -- How attuned you are to body language and tone
  • Validation patterns -- Whether you tend to validate or dismiss others' experiences

Your report provides a detailed profile of your communication tendencies, highlights patterns that may be helping or hindering your relationships, and offers specific strategies to improve.

12 What is Loyalty IQ?

Loyalty IQ is a component within the Trust & Loyalty dimension of RELIQ. It measures the cognitive and emotional patterns that influence how you build, maintain, and respond to loyalty in relationships.

Key aspects include:

  • Trust-building patterns -- How quickly and deeply you extend trust to others
  • Loyalty resilience -- How you respond when trust is tested or broken
  • Reciprocity awareness -- Whether you maintain balanced give-and-take in relationships
  • Boundary setting -- Your ability to set healthy boundaries while maintaining loyalty
  • Betrayal response -- How you process and recover from breaches of trust

Loyalty IQ is not about whether you are a "loyal person" -- it is about understanding the patterns that drive your loyalty behavior, including potential blind spots like being too trusting or too guarded.

13 Can I retake it later?

Yes. We offer a Retest option for $49 that allows you to retake the RELIQ assessment and see how your relationship intelligence has evolved.

Retesting is valuable when:

  • You have actively worked on areas identified in your initial report
  • You have gone through a significant relationship change (new relationship, breakup, marriage, etc.)
  • You have been in therapy or coaching and want to measure growth
  • Several months have passed and you want a fresh perspective

We recommend waiting at least 60 to 90 days between assessments to allow enough time for meaningful change. Relationship intelligence skills develop through practice and awareness, so the best results come after you have had time to implement the recommendations from your initial report.

14 Is my data confidential?

Completely. We understand that relationship data is among the most personal information someone can share. Here is how we protect it:

  • Encrypted at every stage -- All data is transmitted and stored using secure encryption
  • Zero third-party access -- We never sell, share, or disclose your relationship data to anyone
  • Individual access only -- Only you can see your results through your unique results link
  • Partner privacy in Couples Mode -- Each partner's individual responses remain private. The couples report compares profiles but does not reveal specific answers
  • Enterprise-grade security -- Hosted on Cloudflare infrastructure

In Couples Mode, this is especially important: your partner cannot see your individual answers. They only see the couples comparison report, which analyzes compatibility patterns without exposing raw responses. This ensures both partners can answer honestly.

15 What if my partner doesn't want to take it?

That is completely okay. The Individual Mode provides tremendous value even if your partner does not participate. Understanding your own relationship intelligence is powerful on its own.

Here is why it still works:

  • You gain deep insight into your own patterns, communication style, and blind spots
  • You can start making improvements to your relationship skills unilaterally
  • Changes in one partner often positively influence the entire relationship dynamic
  • You may find that your partner becomes curious about RELIQ after seeing the insights you gained

Many RELIQ customers start with the Individual assessment and later upgrade to Couples Mode once their partner sees the value. There is no pressure and no requirement for both partners to participate.

If your partner is hesitant, consider sharing some of the insights from your individual report (the parts you are comfortable sharing). Often that is enough to spark their interest in taking the assessment themselves.
